Dakar Staycation

Happy Monday!

This week is going to be cray cray... no time off for July 4th here in Senegal. In fact, I don't know if I'll have an opportunity to celebrate at all as my day job is going full-swing with some major promotional activities this week. Maybe a special dinner out on Thursday night? The Radisson Blu does have steak imported from the U.S....

The development phase for the new blog design (!!!) will also be under way at some point, so expect the site be down for a day or two.

Despite this week's busyness, the weekend twas excellent. We spent Saturday afternoon lounging by the pool/beach at Terrou Bi. I swam "laps" in the ocean, which has warmed up considerably. After happy hour on the hotel terrace, we returned home to shower before dinner at Sao Bresil, one of my favorite restaurants in Dakar. I dined on my favorite Ngoroise pizza... chorizo, goat cheese, and fresh basil, delish. Though I accidentally left the restaurant without finishing my caiperiña... :(

Sunday C. played in a floorball tournament (while I slept. whoops) and his team won the whole thing! He also won top scorer ;) Later, we spent the afternoon with his family.

Can you tell these two are brothers?!

This was somewhat candid.

I am reading a hilarious memoir, Let's Pretend This Never Happened. Apparently I live under a rock because I had never perused thebloggess.com. That will be changing stat. Next up is the new David Sedaris book, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls.

I may be in Africa and not home for the summer. I may be swamped with work.

But I'm going to read like I'm on vacation in Cape Cod ;)

On that note, how have you celebrated U.S. holidays abroad? Do the days go by unnoticed or do you make an effort to recreate festivities? I've always made an effort for Thanksgiving but not the fourth of July. Do tell.

PS. It rained for the first time in months last night! Let the rainy season begin...

  1. The hubby (only full-American here) is going to the dress rehearsal for his concert on Sunday. So it's me and my to favorite half-Americans. I really want them to get an idea that there's a holiday over on the other side of the pond, so I think I'll prepare a picnic at the playground for them.
